The Issue
Long Run Exploration Ltd. is a foreign-owned oil and gas extraction company primarily operating in Northern Alberta. Long Run stopped paying money owed to many Alberta landowners and farmers in 2020.
Long Run has agreements with many everyday Albertans, primarily farmers and ranchers, that allow it to extract oil and gas from privately-owned land. In exchange, Long Run must pay the landowner a pre-negotiated amount of money once per year, every year. These agreements are called “Surface Lease Agreements” or “Right of Entry Orders”.
In 2020 and 2021, Long Run notified many landowners it would no longer pay them for the use of their land. Accordingly, Long Run stopped paying landowners the annual compensation they are contractually owed.
What KMSC LLP is Doing to Help
KMSC Law has launched a class action against Long Run to ensure Albertan landowners are properly compensated according to the terms of their Surface Lease Agreements or Right of Entry Orders. Albertan landowners and farmers have the right to be compensated for the use of their lands.
What if I’ve Already Been Paid?
Long Run may have stopped paying you for months or years, but recently compensated you for your unpaid rent. However, you may still have a claim against Long Run for the interest you would have earned had Long Run paid you on time. If Long Run had paid you when it was supposed to, you could have invested that money to earn more money. KMSC’s class action can help you recover that lost opportunity to earn interest on the money you were owed.
